Job Description

Our client is looking for a skilled Java Developer to join their growing team in Washington, DC. Initial responsibility will be to develop a new application to secure communications between the central office in Washington, DC and state offices. Post developing the secure communications application, candidate will support new Java applications development and/or maintenance work.  Applicant must demonstrate the ability to work independently or under only general direction.  An analytical thinker with an established approach to design & problem solving is extremely important.  Applicant should be equally comfortable writing new code and refactoring an existing code base. Ensure the best possible performance, quality, and responsiveness of the applications.  Identify bottlenecks and bugs, and devise solutions. Help maintain code quality, organization, and automation.  Critique code of others by participating in peer reviews. Candidate should be familiar with Agile Software Development methodologies.

Due to federal security clearance requirements, applicant must be a US Citizen or Permanent Resident with the ability to obtain a [Public Trust/Secret/Top Secret] Clearance. Responsibilities of the Application Programmer:

  • Design, development, and testing of java-based application architectures in an Agile development environment and the development of Java web applications. The web-based application architectures include web applications, web services, and database operations
  • Translate application storyboards and use cases into functional applications.
  • Ensure the best possible performance, quality, and responsiveness of the applications.
  • Identify bottlenecks and bugs, and devise solutions to these problems.
  • Help maintain code quality, organization, and automation.
  • Critic code of others by participating in peer reviews.
  • Participate in Change Control Board meetings and works on change requests or bugs as assigned by the government project lead

Requirements of the Application Programmer:

  • BS degree and 8 – 10 years of prior relevant experience or Masters with 6 – 8 years of prior relevant experience (may possess a Doctorate in technical domain)
  • Significant development skills on JAVA/J2EE Technologies, MySQL, Angular 2, JavaScript, and Subversion
  • Experience with installation of COTs products and development of Service Oriented Architecture (SOA) and web services
  • Requires experience in the following areas:
    • Java 8, Eclipse, WildFly 10, Hibernate ORM, JDBC, MySQL, SQL, Maven, AWS, Linux, Jasper, HTML, Spring Framework 4.X (including Spring MVC), Log4J, Bugzilla, and Java IO processing
  • Adept at refactoring existing codebase and familiar with Agile Software Development methodologies
