Job Description

The Director, Enterprise Architecture (EA) is accountable for building a holistic view and roadmap of the company’s technology strategy. This role collaborates with both business and technology groups to ensure that the proposed technical solutions align with the company’s overall objectives and prepare the organization for future needs.
 
The Director, EA will be responsible for overall management of the technology portfolio and standards, collaborating with technical and business leaders across the organization.
 
Responsibilities:

  • Manage the technology portfolio overall including dispositions of each technology.
  • Build the technology roadmaps for each functional area.
  • Define and execute the technology ideation process to rapidly assess organizational ideas under consideration partnering with business and technology subject-matter experts to elicit and translate business requirements into technological solutions. Manage and facilitate a review board to evaluate project proposals for architectural fit.
  • Align IT strategy and planning with the company’s business goals and objectives.
  • Review and approve solution architecture deliverables on projects.
  • Partner with solution architects to provide a scalable and adaptable architectural solution.
  • Promote the use of a shared infrastructure and application roadmap to reduce costs and improve how information flows.
  • Circulate roadmaps to align business partner and IT priorities.
  • Build relationships with business stakeholders to gain in-depth knowledge of business strategic plans.
  • Working with technical peers, develop and document architectural standards, policies and guidelines; own the governance of these to ensure alignment and application of best practices.
  • Partnering with other IT personnel, evaluate existing and emerging technologies for their applicability to business challenges/objectives. Present business cases for evaluation and/or implement prototypes or POC’s (proofs-of-concept) to validate expectations.
  • Partner with program managers, project managers and business analysts in the planning, design, build and implementation of enterprise projects/programs.
  • Prepare and deliver presentations for end-users of all levels, including executive management.
  • Lead, motivate and develop associates.
  • Lead or review product and service evaluations and/or selections to ensure they align with strategic goals and objectives.
  • Collaborate with IT Leadership and other business unit leadership to provide recommendations for IT strategy based on the overall enterprise strategic goals as communicated by the Executive Team.
  • Keep current on emerging technologies and recommend if and how to apply them across the enterprise.
  • Work closely with technical managers and project managers to support initiatives and projects as requested.
  • Facilitate and arbitrate disagreements among technical staff and make decisions where needed.
  • Review and manage workload and monitor staff performance.
  • Develop career path and training plans for staff.
  • Keep direct and upper management informed on group activities.
  • Demonstrate leadership through strong collaboration and working relationships with others in IT and the business.
  • Other duties as assigned or as situation dictates.
Job Requirements:
  • BS in Computer Science, or a related field required, Masters preferred.
  • 8 – 10 years of experience with modern technical architectures.
  • 4+ years’ experience in a solution architecture, lead engineer and/or enterprise architecture role.
  • Knowledge of relevant industry standard solutions.
  • Knowledge and understanding of high level, abstract design approaches and patterns that can be used to provide the foundational design for complex systems for their owned architecture(s).
  • Knowledge of successful, unsuccessful, and industry standard approaches to the problems in domains of the owned architecture(s).
  • In-depth understanding of the perspectives and needs of the customers that the owned architecture(s) support.
  • Passion for clear communication and the ability to think creatively when solving difficult problems.
  • Strong interpersonal, written and oral communications skills.
  • Ability to motivate and direct a diverse group of individuals
  • Highly self-motivated and directed, with a keen attention to detail.
  • Ability to effectively prioritize and execute/delegate/follow-up on multiple tasks in a high-pressure environment.
  • Demonstrates initiative, creativity and innovation to drive breakthrough product and process ideas to fruition.
