Job Description

We have an exciting opportunity for a IT Release Manager with our industry-leading client in Durham.

Responsibilities of the IT Release Manager:

  • Ensure ITIL Service Transition services are managed, operated and supported in accordance with the ITIL service model. 
  • Lead Release Planning meetings; provide for the review and approval and scheduling of change requests. 
  • Provide appropriate and timely communication about change, within a release event, so that stakeholders are aware and are ready to adopt and support the change. 
  • Design, develop and manage Release Management policies and procedures in accordance with ITIL processes. 
  • Maintain open communication and good working relationships with departments that participate in Release Management and help define ways to increase internal and external client satisfaction. 
  • Determine and present business impact analysis and mitigation plans to executive leadership related to application and technology changes proposed for release. 
  • Responsible for independently making decisions and negotiating with stakeholders to plan appropriately, address issues and maximize efficiencies for the organization. 
  • Determine and present business impact analysis and mitigation plans to executive leadership regarding change and release issues. 
  • Regularly review and suggest updates to the ITIL v3 Process Architecture toolkit. 
  • Define and create release deployment plans for releases of varied sizes and complexities with developers, project managers, third party service providers and quality management. 
  • Ensure that release packages can be tracked, installed, verified and/or uninstalled or backed out if necessary. 
  • Work with development and infrastructure areas to ensure event plans have contingencies and backout plans in place. 
  • Ensure the integrity of a release package and its components and that stakeholder change is managed during the release and deployment activities. 
  • Create and maintain application release analysis and documentation and provide reporting. 
  • Utilize expertise in release management and planning to partner with business areas and provide consulting support to determine the most effective way to meet the needs of multiple business areas. 

Requirements of the IT Release Manager:

  • Bachelor’s degree in technical discipline and 3 years of experience with technology domains, change or release management and/or related governance functions (5 years of experience accepted in lieu of a degree)
  • Must have solid background in infrastructure support and application development. 
  • Must have background in ITIL best practices and application to the business environment.
