What You’ll Be Doing…

How you fit in:
Our client is seeking an experienced and knowledgeable IT Security Engineer to join our Security Services team supporting a dynamic environment that includes both internal and citizen facing services ranging from public health and safety to parks and open spaces. As a member of the Security Services team the candidate will be providing management, maintenance, and support of Countywide information security solutions designed to protect the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of the County’s IT systems and data. The IT Security Engineer is responsible for the design, implementation, and support of a secure information technology environment at the client site. The IT Security Engineer is expected to research and evaluate products to enhance the overall security posture of both internal and externally facing services. This position will serve as a subject matter expert for all infrastructure and application security protocols for the client. The candidate is expected to implement security platforms in accordance with federal, state, and local regulations, policies, guidelines, and standards. NOTE: A criminal background and credit check will be conducted.

The Basics (required education and experience):
Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with an emphasis in information security, computer science, information systems, computer engineering, or a related field; and four years of information technology security experience; or equivalent work experience. A valid driver's license and a "safe" driving record are required.

Beyond the Basics (preferred education and experience):
The successful candidate will demonstrate excellent customer service and troubleshooting skills combined with advanced level knowledge and understanding of information security architecture, technologies, practices and controls in order to effectively carry out the above job functions with a diverse group of end users, including County senior leadership, IT technical staff, legal staff, public officials, vendors and related industry experts. 
The candidate will possess the ability to apply critical thinking and collaborative approaches to assure effective and secure use of information technology in support of the County's business needs. 
Current Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP), Security+, or relevant vendor security certifications are preferred.

The ideal candidate will have engineering expertise as it relates to endpoint security technologies to include anti-virus, anti-malware, host-based firewall, advanced threat protection, detection & response, application & device control, and vulnerability management.  Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
• Providing technical engineering for endpoint security settings, policies, and design configurations
• Ensuring reduced vulnerability of systems ensuring functional endpoint protection on all targeted clients
• Experience with Firewall concepts and rules
• Experience with WAN/LAN network configuration, protocols, and bandwidth restrictions 
• Ability to troubleshoot workstations and server (Windows / Mac / Linux)
• Ability to communicate complex issues to other engineers and work with other engineers and/or vendor to debug and/or change configuration to solve systemic configuration problems
• Commitment to following through until complete resolution of problem

The ideal candidate will also have the ability to manage security incidents through the incident response life cycle.  This will be accomplished by:
• Defining security standards & incident response plans to detect, respond and recover from security incidents
• Researching and integrating current vulnerabilities, threats, and security technologies into incident response operations
• Managing complex security incidents through the incident response life cycle
• Documenting security incidents and maintaining incident artifacts
• Detecting and analyzing security incidents through the monitoring of various security tools
• Analyzing incident related data, such as packet captures, and log files
• Designing and implementing threat containment and eradication strategies
• Developing incident response processes and procedures
• Generating post incident reports, lessons learned documents, and threat papers for senior management 

Preferred General Skills:
• Understanding of legislative and regulatory issues pertaining to information security such as knowledge of Payment Card Industry (PCI), Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA), and open records statutes
• Experience with multiple enterprise security platforms utilizing high availability, such as firewall, IDS, IPS, web filtering, endpoint protection, encryption, and email protection
• Experience securing both Windows and Linux servers
• Experience securing cloud-based services
• Experience performing security risk assessments and penetration testing
• Demonstrated ability to document complex designs and implementation strategies
• Excellent troubleshooting skills
• Excellent communication skills and ability to clearly discuss and convey complex information technology security concepts and terminology with both technical and non-technical staff
