Job Description

We have a wonderful opportunity for a Resident Engineer with our large and growing client in Portland.

The proposed resident engineer should be well versed in the architecture, design, implementation and testing of Layer 2/3 networks, with an emphasis on regional transport networks and/or power utilities carrying mission critical applications. Power utility experience is a plus, but not a full requirement.  A higher emphasis will be made on an individual with strong experience in Carrier Ethernet network design and implementation, being that the customer is in the midst of a G.8031 Carrier Ethernet roll out.  The RE will be expected to have successfully worked with customer teams in devising Carrier Ethernet strategies to minimize latency and jitter to the lowest possible values, with an emphasis on striving for maximum up time.

Responsibilities of the Resident Engineer:

  • Provide Layer 2 architectural guidance and expertise as it relates to power utility applications
  • Assist in configuration and setup of lab equipment at customer site as it pertains to mutually discussed provisioning and architectural concepts
  • Assist in troubleshooting and/or configuring as needed
  • Assist with validation testing of installed field equipment
  • Provide  demonstration on the provided lab equipment of ELAN behavior specific to PBBTE/G.8032/G.8031
  • Provide demonstration on the provided lab equipment of a visual representation of frame flow, in addition to process for alteration of headers upon both ingress and egress
  • Provide assistance for the provisioning of major/sub ring ERP’s and demonstrate the switching capabilities/mechanisms available

Requirements of the Resident Engineer:

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Engineering or equivalent
  • At least 10 years of experience in the technical disciplines involved in project work
  • Power utility experience is a plus
