We have an exciting opportunity for a High Performance Computing Engineer with our industry-leading client in Rockville.

Responsibilities of the High Performance Computing Engineer:

  • Design architecture, enhance features for a 3000+ core high performance cluster in order to support molecular dynamics, genomics, proteomics, phylogentics, and deep learning research
  • Create and execute solutions to complex problems, ensuring they are in line with established guidelines
  • Monitor cluster performance and find resolutions to difficult system processes, as well as configuring bioinformatic applications
  • Utilize cluster/grid technologies to create computing solutions
  • Apply in-depth HPC and Linux expertise to collaborate with stakeholders across IT and domain disciplines to expand HPC use in support of world class, cutting-edge scientific research

Requirements of the High Performance Computing Engineer:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience
  • 5+ years of experience with Linux/Unix variants, especially RedHat/RHEL and its derivatives
  • 5+ years of experience supporting high performance clusters with Grid Engine experience (in any variant)
  • Hands-on experience supporting IBM Spectrum Scale (formerly known as IBM GPFS)
  • Demonstrated working knowledge of popular bioinformatics applications and ability to compile, package, install, and upgrade software as well as assist researchers with configuring job submission scripts and troubleshooting application issues
  • Scripting experience (Perl, Python, Ruby, R, bash, etc)
  • Automation/configuration management experience (Puppet, Ansible, Chef, Salt, etc.)
  • Able to clearly present ideas to both technical and non-technical users in formal and informal settings
