Job Description

Eliassen Group is seeking a Lead DevOps Engineer for a permanent position supporting a program under the National Institutes of Health (NIH). This is a heterogeneous technical environment consisting of Unix (85%) and Windows (15%) servers and roughly 10 enterprise applications (Java) that are being migrated to AWS. Candidates should possess excellent communication skills and be willing to mentor junior engineers on the team.

This is a contract to hire opportunity. Applicants must be willing and able to work on a w2 basis and convert to FTE following contract duration. Responsibilities of the Lead DevOps Engineer:
  • Collaborate with development teams to architect, configure, and troubleshoot application servers and the software running on them
  • Manage application deployment, maintenance, and upgrade process across multiple development teams
  • Translate development team requirements into application/system configuration
  • Coordinate between development teams and systems team
  • Constantly work to improve current processes
  • Troubleshoot and fix application problems
  • Automate the deployment of new versions of applications
  • Implement COTS installations, changes, upgrades, patches, and production
  • Install and configure systems, custom, and third-party software packages
Requirements of the Senior DevOps Engineer:
  • Excellent experience and understanding of current DevOps models and development trends for web applications
  • Strong Cloud experience (Docker/Container) and migrating AWS applications
  • Experience with system administration - Solaris/Linux preferred
  • Experience with Apache Server administration
  • Experience with version control software setup, administration, and configuration - Git, Subversion, CVS
  • Python, Bash, or Perl scripting skills; ability to script using VI/VIM or EMACS
  • Experience with either Puppet (preferred) or Ansible
